In 1972, Lucia was reading a book when, suddenly, the lights went out. She was completely blind.

 Encouraged to continue her work, she began with the picture on the left and continued with the picture on the right. After a bit more practice, she continued on to complete 400 works in the remaining 26 months of her life. So impressed was he with her 'blind paintings', that Leo Castelli insisted on having a  show for them at his Manhattan gallery in May, 1974.
